Treating Chronic Fatigue Syndrome with CBD – Benefits & Effects

Many people consider CBD to be an effective alternative treatment for Chronic Fatigue Disorder. Even though studies are yet to be done on the effectiveness of CBD in treating Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, it is apparent that CBD helps in reducing some of the symptoms. For instance, CBD is known to reduce joint pain that is associated with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) is a complicated disorder that is characterized by unexplainable fatigue. The fatigue doesn’t go away and it can’t be explained by any medical condition. Sometimes the fatigue worsens with physical and mental activities, but does not improve even after a long rest.

The symptoms of CFS include fatigue, sore throat, unrefreshing sleep, headaches, unexplained muscle or joint pain, enlarged lymph nodes in the neck and armpits, loss of memory along with concentration as well as extreme exhaustion lasting more than 24 hours after physical or mental exercise.

The exact cause of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is yet to be known, even though scientists have claimed that it can be triggered by a combination of factors including viral infections, immune system problems and even hormonal imbalance. That said, the risk factors for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome include age, sex and stress. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome could also result in social and psychological problems like social isolation, depression, lifestyle restrictions and increased work absences.

There is currently no cure for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, even though medications and therapies like cognitive training and graded exercise can be used to manage the symptoms. Of course, using medications to treat Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is complicated in the sense that a single medication will hardly alleviate all the symptoms since patients usually experience changes in symptoms. Moreover, the medications used in treating Chronic Fatigue Syndrome are associated with many side effects such as nausea, drowsiness and fatigue, blurred vision, constipation, dry mouth, insomnia, weight gain or increased appetite and even sexual problems like loss of sexual desire, and erectile dysfunction.

Several studies have shown that CBD interacts with both the immune system and the brain receptors. These receptors are reported to receive a bunch of chemicals from stimuli, thereby helping the rest of the cells of the body to respond to those signals. Of course, when the receptors react with CBD, the result is the formation of anti-inflammatory effects that reduce pain. As a matter of fact, CBD improves the pain management system of the body, by merely interacting with receptors.

In addition, CDD also helps to improve the quality of sleep of people suffering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. According to growing research, CBD has the ability to reduce anxiety, which is very helpful in improving the quality of sleep. As a matter of fact, research has shown that CBD could improve insomnia in people suffering from chronic pain. It should be noted that one of the symptoms of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is unrefreshing sleep and CBD has been reported to be effective in treating various sleeping disorders, those associated with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome inclusive.

According to a 2018 article that was published in Med Pub, CBD lowers anxiety level, thereby making people fall asleep easily and quickly. It is apparent that when anxiety levels are low, an individual becomes more refreshed and this in turn results in an improved quality of sleep.

It is evident that there is little or no research on the effectiveness of CBD in treating Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Thus, scientists should carry out more research on the subject in a bid to come out with a clearer picture of CBD’s potential in treating CFS and whether or not there are any long term side effects associated with such a treatment option.
