Albeit illegal, Hawaii was famous for its craft growers in the late 70s. Maui Wowee and Blue Hawaiian were some of the most popular and sought-after strains of the day. It is believed that Hawaii’s marijuana sales at the time were higher than that of sugar cane or pineapples.
Although medical marijuana was technically legalized in Hawaii way back in the year 2000, it’s dispensary program did not launch until July of 2016. Up until dispensaries opened, patients and caregivers were required to cultivate their own medical marijuana.

Once your application is completed you will need to submit it to your physician/APRN during your initial consultation.
Be sure to bring any pertinent medical records with you to the appointment.
If the physician/APRN certifies that you have been diagnosed with one of the qualifying medical conditions, he or she will submit your application to the DOH.
Medical marijuana consultation fees generally range between $150 to $200.
If you are approved you will receive your Hawaii medical marijuana card in the mail within 10 business days. You may also use an electronic card offered by the state (assuming you’ve got mobile internet or the dispensary has wifi).
Be sure to double-check your application as your physician will not be allowed to make changes.
